Colorectal Surgery
The colon and rectal surgery division at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine offers a wide range of minimally invasive colorectal procedures. We have extensive experience in treating all forms of colorectal disorders laparoscopically and have one of the most extensive experiences in the country. Our minimally invasive surgery program began in the early 1990’s when laparoscopic colorectal surgery was in its infancy.
We have subsequently participated in the COST trial, a recently published multicenter research study comparing the laparoscopic to the traditional open approach for colon cancer. Our center was one of the top participating centers in this national trial. Currently, we are offering laparoscopic surgery as an option for patients with colorectal polyps and cancer, diverticular disease, prolapse, and inflammatory bowel disease, as well as other less common conditions. Through our Center for Digestive Disorders and the Sylvester Cancer Center’s site disease group for colorectal cancer, we work hand in hand with a variety of specialists to ensure that our patients get the best, most effective, coordinated care and treatment possible.
