The Center of Excellence for Laparoscopic and Minimally Invasive Surgery is a state-of -the-art medical facility located on the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine campus. The Center was developed with the support of the DeWitt Daughtry Family Department of Surgery and by the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine as well as unrestricted educational grants from corporate partners. Since opening in late 2001, the Center has established itself as a premier facility for education, training, and research and development in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery. Mission Statement
The Center is committed to teaching surgeons the application of minimally invasive surgical techniques so they are well equipped to offer an alternative to traditional open surgery – an alternative requested with increasing frequency. For patients, minimally invasive surgery, sometimes referred to as ‘keyhole’ surgery, offers reduced post operative pain, quicker recovery, and less scarring. Minimally invasive procedures are performed by many specialties at the hospitals affiliated with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine:
